Executive Vice President, KIZAD (Industrial Zones, Abu Dhabi Ports Company)

Mr. Khaled Salmeen Al Kawari is the Executive Vice President, Industrial Zones at ADPC (Abu Dhabi Ports Company). His primary responsibility is the development of Kizad (Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi) which, at 420 Square Kilometres, will be one of the World’s largest industrial developments and a key enabler of diversification in line with Abu Dhabi’s 2030 Economic Vision. Under Mr Al Kawari’s leadership, the multi-billion dollar Kizad has begun to transform the concept of industrial zones. With its ideal location, ultra modern infrastructure, outstanding transport, services and logistics options and vertically integrated clusters, Kizad offers outstanding access to global markets, a low operating cost environment and ease of doing business. Kizad will undoubtedly become a world class industrial hub housing some of the world’s leading industrial companies.
Mr Al Kawari’s role at KIZ builds on a professional career that has spanned a number of sectors including energy, utilities, infrastructure, petrochemicals and power, forming a diversified technical, commercial and leadership foundation. He brings extensive local and international experience in the fields of infrastructure development, utilities and energy, including design, construction, operations and maintenance as well as project management. A graduate of the Colorado School of Mines in the USA, Mr Al Kawari’s started his career in the US where he designed and managed the construction of mechanical systems for some of the World’s most famous sporting facilities. Upon his return to the UAE in 2000, Khaled progressed quickly through the ranks at numerous high-profile companies in Abu Dhabi, including Borouge (Abu Dhabi Polymers Company, part of the ADNOC Group of Companies) and Masdar, before taking the role of Chief Operating Officer of Tabreed, the district cooling company that owns and operates 62 cooling plants across the Middle East. Mr. Al Kawari is a registered Project Management Professional with the Project Management Institute and an active member in many professional associations such as the International District Energy Association.
