José María Rubiato
Acting Head of the Trade Logistics Branch of UNCTAD
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) promotes development through trade in developing countries. The Trade Logistics Branch looks at trade and transport facilitation issues of relevance to the improvement of transport efficiency in developing countries. This includes contributing to international consensus building around key matters affecting global transport, designing and implementing solutions for transit improvements in landlocked developing countries and publishing the Review of Maritime Transport, a flagship report of UNCTAD and the only annual publication of its kind made freely available on line. The Trade Logistics Branch also hosts the ASYCUDA Customs Automation programme currently operating in more than 90 countries.
Before joining UNCTAD, Mr. Rubiato held the position of Multimodal Transport specialist at the Economic Commission for Latin America and The Caribbean - ECLAC, in Santiago de Chile where he was responsible for providing support to regional Ministerial institutions, including the Western Hemisphere Transport Initiative, working on the adoption of effective solutions to improve transport in South and Central America.
Mr. Rubiato holds a License in Business Administration (MBA equivalent) from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, a Postgraduate Degree on Development Studies from L'Institut D'études du Développement de L'Université de Genève, Switzerland, and a Postgraduate Degree a on Knowledge Management and Strategic Planning from the Universidad de Chile, Santiago de Chile.
