In March 2011, Abu Dhabi hosted the very first World Ports & Trade Summit.
An initiative developed with ADPC – Abu Dhabi Ports Company and the Arab Seaports Federation, the Summit has created an annual hub for international business and government leaders to meet and exchange information on the alternative futures facing the global shipping industries.
The 2011 Summit attracted over 3,000 visitors from 52 countries.

- Equipment manufacturers demonstrated new technology
- Shipping companies discussed the financial implications of rising fuel costs and piracy
